Marketing yourself is probably one of the most difficult parts of my job…at least to me! Figuring out which platforms work the best, and HOW they work is a constant battle.
Deciding if you are going to spend money on traditional marketing, or just do what so many are preaching these days and just rely on social media marketing.
Do you use social media, and which platforms do you focus on? Do you need to use them all, or just focus on a couple of them hard core?
Do you start a newsletter? Join a local Bridal Association, or subscribe to a Bridal Magazine? Do you use The Knot or Wedding Wire?
There are so many amazing options out there these days, and it’s so confusing to know what to do!!!
But let’s just talk about one form of marketing today…Social Media. Specifically INSTAGRAM!
Instagram is my go to platform. I love the way you can curate your “grid” to really have a running portfolio that people see on a daily basis. I love that it has a social aspect to it (because I am a SUPER social person!!). And I love that they have added insta stories, cause I gotta tell ya, I was a big fan of snapchat but the ease of having it all in one place…you get me insta!
Here are a few tips for making the most of your instagram:
1: Curate your GRID.
What does this mean? When you go to your profile and you see those first 9 tiles, they should all look cohesive and tell the story of your brand. I should see what you want to shoot, I should see consistency in your work, and I should be able to immediately recognize whether I want to follow you or not. “Repel or Attract” that is the name of the game!
I’m not always perfect at this, and that’s ok too! Something I learned from Jordan Demos, is that sometimes you have to “throw your grid” which means you just post something because you really want to post it and it doesn’t necessarily go along with your beautifully curated story but it’s worth it. But make sure you aren’t doing this all the time.
2: Use Insta Stories!
THIS! I cannot stress this enough! Your potential, and current clients want to see YOU! They want to know what kind of person you are, what you like and dislike! They want to know if they are going to get along with you and have fun with you. And it gives you an extra platform to be able to post things so you don’t necessarily ever have to “throw your grid”! Post updates about your life, your work, your family, and the things that you are excited about. And don’t be afraid to BE YOURSELF!!
3: Use Link Tree
You don’t know about Link Tree yet?! Oh I’m about to rock your world!
Link Tree is an amazing tool for us as business owners that want to be able to not just send someone to one link at a time!
On your phone, click ??Link Tree. It will prompt you to sign up with your instagram, and then you can add multiple link buttons. Once you are done it gives you a custom link to add to your insta profile. When your followers click this link, they will have the option to go to whatever buttons you’ve created!
