So you got engaged! CONGRATS! Now all you can think about is planning the big event. I will be trickling in a few tips/tricks on how to make the planning process smoother in my experience!!
Let’s be honest, we’ve been “pinning” things since kindergarten, Monica Geller style (Click the name for a good laugh!!). When Pinterest came out with their hidden folders, the little girl in your pillow case veil came out in full force, and all of the hopeful brides rejoiced! So yea, if you’re a groom reading this, your girl has been pinning all things wedding maybe even before she met you!!! It’s what we do!! We’ve dreamed of the perfect dress, the flowers, the rings, the color of nail polish we want to wear!!
But what else goes into planning a wedding? And how do you stay sane doing it?
Bride Tip:
The Secret to Staying Calm and Enjoying the Planning Process
Before you start to plan even ONE thing…know your budget!! If dad is going to pay for it, have the money talk! Knowing that you are going to be conscientious about spending your budget and wanting to have a grasp on it will probably make him really happy!
Once you know your budget…
TIP #ONE:
Hire a Coordinator!
You think you can figure this all out, and I know you could, but oh gosh it will make your life easier to have someone who has done this thing a few times and knows exactly what needs to happen and when! If you can’t fit a full service coordinator in, then at the very least I HIGHLY encourage a day of Coordinator! They keep things running smoothly; communicate with vendors for you, and I promise they are worth every penny!
If you cannot fit a coordinator into your budget at all, I suggest brainstorming with your fiancé to figure out who in your family can act as the “director of events” for the day of the wedding. Maybe you have a favorite aunt who is really organized and has been in, a few weddings and knows the general idea of how things go. At the very least you are going to want someone to help direct you down the aisle and to keep the timeline on schedule, as well as be on call in case a vendor needs to talk to someone. The last thing you want on the day of your wedding is to be trying to coordinate with the florist who got lost getting to your venue (hours and hours prior, don’t start sweating yet! Haha!)
In general having someone you know will be in charge of all the little things that WILL come up the day of the wedding will set your mind at ease. This is the first step to staying calm and enjoying the planning process!!
Until next time…Happy Planning!!
